Ned’s eyes tracked his friend Jack as he navigated the people and suitcases packed into the tiny waiting area. The cocky half-grin Jack wore said there would be a story, most likely about a woman. Heads turned to watch him move, so comfortable in his own skin. Ned didn’t remember being that confident, even years ago when he’d been the younger man’s age. There was just something about Jack that drew people.

“You would not believe the woman I ran into.” Jack handed him a bottle of water. “Well, she ran into me.”

“And you’re already back?” Ned shifted to prop his ankle on his knee. Airport chairs weren’t designed for tall men.

“She didn’t bite.” Jack took his seat, leaving the mandatory empty chair between them. 

“Not into you?” Despite the fact he didn’t feel thirsty, Ned opened the bottle and took a deep swallow.

“Long blond hair with a body that won’t quit. She’d be a typical princess type except for her eyes. They’re unbelievable. Light brown, flecks of gold…” He craned his neck as if trying to locate her again.

“I’m shocked you remembered she had eyes, much less what color they were.”

“She’s over there. You can’t see much but the top of her head. Did I mention she’s tall?” Jack opened his water and took a swig. “I’m sure she’s going to be on our plane.” 

A burning sensation flashed through his gut. What was that? A spark of… Damn. Jealousy? That he might not have his friend’s full attention during the flight? It was ridiculous. “Sounds like love.”

Jack shuddered. “Even I’m not cowboy enough to attempt that ride again. It’s an unequivocal case of hard-core lust.”
